Emporer Otto the Great turned Magdeburg into a mighty metropolis during the Middle Ages and chose the city as the center of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. Martin Luther and Otto von Guericke left lasting impressions all over the city and commander Tilly razed Magdeburg to the ground during the Thirty Years' War. Fire, war and industrialisation were not able to avert the city of Magdeburg from flourishing more beautiful than ever.
